St. Tammany Fire Protection District No.1 is comprised of five major divisions including the Administration Division, the Suppression Division, the Communications Division, the Fire Prevention Division and the Training and Safety Division.
The Administration Division is responsible for oversight of Human Resources, Budgeting, Policies and Procedures, Discipline, Hiring, as well as the Communications Division, Fire Prevention Division and Training and Safety Division, Administrative Staff and third party contractors.
The Suppression Division is responsible for providing 24-hour fire, rescue, hazardou materials and emergency medical services to the citizens and visitors of St. Tammany Fire Protection District No.1.
The Fire Prevention Division has continuously served the local community since 1979. Fire Prevention Officers enforce fire and life safety codes for public buildings in our area including new and existing structures through new construction and annual inspections. Fire Prevention Officers also investigate fires to determine origin and cause working closely with the Federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Office and Slidell Police Department on those cases where the crime of arson has been committed. The Fire Prevention Division is also responsible for providing fire and life safety education year round to schools, various groups and businesses.
The Communications Division is responsible for receiving emergency calls, dispatching the necessary resources and communicating vital information to both callers and first responders. Based at the Central Station location, in Olde’ Town, and functioning as a secondary PSAP for St. Tammany Parish, the communications center has 3 dispatch consoles and can add two additional workstations if needed. Partnered with The City of Slidell Police Department, Fire Protection District #1’s Communications Division handled over 8,236 emergency calls and over 26,224 events in 2011. The Communications Divsion also answers after hours calls for the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office.
The Training and Safety Division is responsible for ensuring the safety and training needs of the department are met. The division trains all personnel and new recruits ensuring that fire and EMS certification requirements are met and that personnel are prepared for the various demands that are placed on them. The division operates and maintains a state of the art training facility located within Camp Villere.
